The Sandlot

I could sum up today in one sentence: We left the house at 8:45 am and didn't return until 8:45 pm!!!

We hit the ground running this morning literally. The boys had their final day of soccer camp from 9-12! Daddy was able to come along for a bit and see the guys in action. This made both of their mornings. Especially Dzintars who was thrilled to have a father figure there cheering him on! He even scored two goals while Peter was there watching and taking pictures. Dzintars told me all about it later, so I know it truly did make his day!

One of the shots Peter captured of Dzintars in action today.

Going up to receive his camp certificate.

We're so proud of you Dzintars!!

Both our boys with their soccer camp certificates! I'm fairly certain it's Dzintars first:)

With three hours of soccer camp behind him Dzintars then moved on to baseball. What more could a boy want on a hot summer day:) Ha! He was sweating buckets but he truly loved every minute of it. My sweet friend Mary Ann, mother of my favorite boys, arranged for a bunch of kids to meet us at the park for some teenage fun! First they fueled up for the big game with pizza then they hit the field! I hadn't realized that while Dzintars loves baseball he was completely clueless when it came to the rules of the game:) Whoops, would have been nice to clue him in BEFORE he stepped up to bat. My sweet boy had no idea what to do after he hit the ball, and while we're all yelling "RUN!" it became apparent that is NOT one of the English words he understands. Eventually he got the idea, and took off, bat in hand, for first base! Once he got the "lay of the land" he did quite well and even scored a run:)

Fueling up before the big game.

Dzintars' team!

Heading for second.

Crossing home plate!!

So proud of himself!!

The baseball field was ridiculously hot! So the kids moved on to football in a more shady area! This was another game Dzintars had never really played before. Joel so sweetly explained everything to him as they went along and he had a great time! He scored two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass when he was playing quarterback. I was so proud of all the kids out there, they easily included Dzintars and were giving him "high-fives" left and right! As usual, he fit right in!

About to make the catch...

Run Dzintars, run!

Touchdown Dzintars!!! Trevor almost got him!!

Your first touchdown in "American football" equals high fives all around!!

Dear Joel, You rock! Thanks for having such a sweet spirit and taking such good care of your new buddy Dzintars!
 Love, Mrs. Maljian

Dzintars and Joel...or as Dz calls him "Josh". LOL!

The whole crew! Thanks everyone for coming out! Dzintars had a great time today!  You will never know the impact a day like today had on Dzintars! Tonight he asked to call both his social worker back in Latvia and his orphanage director. While he was babbling away in Latvian I kept hearing words I knew like soccer, American football and baseball so I know he was filling them both in on all the fun he had with you guys!! Some of you I knew already and some of you I just met today for the very first time, but you all helped make this an extra special day for Dzintars!

With the Abe kiddos.

I got to see a bunch of "old" faces today. I taught three of the four kiddos in this photo:)

After doing nothing but sweating from 9am-2pm Dzintars needed to cool off and we headed to the pool with the Ellis brothers! These boys are so much fun and have been such a blessing to Dzintars! Our whole family loves them, even Brennan and Kaelyn start asking about them if we haven't seen them for a few days! Dzintars will go back to Latvia with so many great memories of his time with them! It means the world to me that he was able to come here and make friends like them, who accept him and actually want to hang out with him even though they don't speak the same language!

We went straight from the pool to the street fair, though Dzintars was begging for a nap by this time:) Sadly it will be Dzintars last street fair with us! Next week we'll be out of town for my family reunion so we'll miss it. I am beyond sad that we are already experiencing our "lasts" with him:( Four weeks have already come and gone, how can that be?? I remember having a slight panic attack right before he arrived because five weeks could seem REALLY long if things didn't go well, but now five weeks doesn't seem like nearly long enough! Quick! Someone figure out how to freeze time!! Like NOW!!
