High Five

Day three of soccer camp found Dzintars practicing his ball juggling with his teammates. Their current record is fifteen touches before dropping the ball.

Can I just say that this little girl has been quite a trooper this week! She's already sat on the sidelines for twelve hours of soccer camp this week and still has three to go.

Each day the temperature has been hotter than the day before which is hard on our favorite Latvian. He's just not accustomed to the heat. He didn't score any goals today during their scrimmage and he blamed it on the heat:) I loved watching him play, he was just like any other kid on the team. He wasn't an orphan, he was just a boy playing soccer and it was beautiful to watch. His teammates have accepted him, they'll call out his name before passing to him and give him high fives after a good pass or an attempt on goal! He fits right in and from the outside looking in no one would know that he is any different from them!! But he is, and his time is running out! Please keep sharing his story! He will turn 15 in the fall and is dangerously close to aging out of the system. Without intervention 70% of the boys will live on the streets or in jail after leaving the orphanage and 15% will committ suicide within the first year on their own! That cannot happen to Dzintars!!

He wants to stay in America. He tells me daily now that Latvia is not him home, but his home is in America. I know someone out there can make his dream come true!!
