Lifes a Beach

Today we loaded up all the kids and headed to the beach. Dzintars said he's been to the sea (I'm assuming the Baltic Sea as it borders Latvia) once, but never to the ocean. It seems like the same to me, but according to google they are actually different. So let's chalk this up as another new life experience. I'm pretty sure they don't have surfers in Latvia and Huntington Beach was FULL of them today!
Kaelyn's not throwing up the peace, sign the only way the lady taking the picture could get her to look up was to ask how old she was.

"It's cold Stacey! It's cold!" I know one Latvian who does not like to be cold!!

Our little jokester is at it again, trying to splash us with the freezing cold water.

You have to have a picture with a surfer in the background when you come to "Surf City".

Both my kiddos have pics with their names written in the sand and now Dzintars does as well.

Clowning around with Peter.

I attempted to get him to boogie board, but he refused. It was just "Too cold Stacey! Too cold!"

This is how my Latvian boogie boards. It's much warmer this way.

After our teeny tiny dip in the ocean he needed a sweatshirt. Silly boy!!

Brennan made an attempt at boogie boarding as well. He got slightly more wet than Dzintars. I swear I feed him:)

Kaelyn spent her day doing this....

and this:)

Our buried treasures:)

She makes me smile:)

After we loaded up the car everyone got some ice cream and we noticed they had the big family bikes available for rent. It seemed like today was as good a day as any to try one out. I knew it would go over well with all three kiddos. Dzintars was begging to drive but the boardwalk was SO busy, there were bikes and people everywhere and we just weren't sure that it was a good idea. But he kept asking and it's possible he'd never get a chance again so on the way back once the crowds had cleared a bit we let him take over. It was the highlight of his day for sure, but it's quite possible we put our other two children and every other pedestrian or bicyclist in danger just by doing so!! I feel extremely sorry for whoever has to teach this kid to drive a car! Peter sat next to him so he could man the brake or grab the wheel (which he needed to do often) but every time Dzintars swatted his hand away and insisted he didn't need help...I beg to differ! Peter probably saved more lives than the lifeguards today!!!

The biggest boys headed out to run some errands today while the littles slept, you know, because clearly they tired themselves out while they DIDN'T pedal that huge monstrous bike. We've been playing A LOT of Wii with Dzintars at night after Brennan and Kaelyn are asleep and we needed one extra piece so we could compete in 2 player games against each other. They headed to Best Buy, thinking for sure they'd have it, they didn't:( But Peter did introduce Dzintars to the drums there, which he loved. He's never played before, but this kids got rhythm!! Peter shot a video of it on his phone, he knows how to keep a beat. He'd be a great drummer!!

We celebrated our 11th anniversary tonight with dinner at Islands, not super classy, but whatcha gonna do when you have 2 littles and a teenager with you? My in laws joined us, and everyone got dessert too. In case you're keeping count that was ice cream number 2 for today. We're living on the edge people. On. The. Edge.
